Little Feet

This one's for my mom, who likes their little feet hanging down. 

Pine Siskin in Snow

At first I thought this little guy was some sort of a cross between a goldfinch and a finch, but it turns out he's a pine siskin (carduelis pinus).  I love those yellow stripes on his wings and tail, what a pretty little bird. 

I've decided to challenge myself this month, and I'm going to attempt to post 1 new image per day for the next 30 days..  I've simplified my business and it gives me a lot more time to shoot and my goal is to have one new image a day..  We'll see if I can keep it up!

A Funny Thing I've Noticed..

is that my cats seem very interested in the computer screen when I'm working on these images!

Snowy Birds

 

 

I'm happy to share with you my newest birds!  On the top is the common redpoll, then two goldfinches, a chickadee, and on the bottom is my personal favorite, the tufted titmouse. I don't know why I love him so, but his pointy little head and grumpy face get me every time.

Watching the birds for long periods is really fun for me, and I've learned so much about them.  The most amazing thing to me is how QUICKLY their little minds work.  Their thought processes must work hundreds of time faster than ours.  In the time it takes my brain to get my finger to press a shutter, these little guys can maneuver a complex landing from a super fast flight (sometimes just diving with their wings all tucked in) interact with the other birds at the feeder, and find a safe place to land.  When frozen in a photograph, I can see a tiny glimpse of what's really happening, but it's way too fast for my conscious mind. 

This month has been a nice one otherwise.  Several of my mandalas are included this month in the "Green" issue of Bangor Metro Magazine where I am honored to be the featured artist in the Perspectives section.  It's been really fun to get some local publicity and I want to thank Bangor Metro for a lovely reproduction of my work and a great magazine in general.

I am also excited to be featured on papernstitch this month, and was thrilled to have my work included on a few great blogs lately - including the lovely bliss, one perfect thing, and M V S E V M.  All are great sources of design beauty and inspiration and worth a good look. Thank you, all.
