I don't know how long you need to live in Maine to get used to the looooong winters here, but obviously I haven't been here long enough! But after suffering thru the cabin fever, the snow and ice, and the endless task of running a woodstove and hauling wood, spring has finally, and suddenly, raised it's head. FINALLY! The last two weeks have been amazing, sunny and blue skies nearly every day, watching life returning to the land. I have never enjoyed spring more than in these last few weeks, watching all these pretty little things come up and spending time in the sun.. I've been rediscovering macro photography too - the subjects of these photos are all about an inch tall.
I've been reacquanting myself with the wildlife around me here in my spot of the world.. The microclimate here on our little mountaintop spot is really magical, with ferns and mosses and strangely shaped lichen all around me.. When I look thru my camera, sometimes I find a strange alien world!
What you may not be able to see in the above image is the strange little "hands" this thing has on the tips of it's branches. They remind me of the Simpson's hands! Here's a detail:
The natural world is sure full of some amazing stuff!
A related blog post with more photos is here and the entire series of photographs is available on my site here.
